DERFEL

Terms of Service

Matrix chat service · derfel.dev · Last updated 17 September 2026

This is a plain-language description of the terms under which this personal, single-operator Matrix service is offered — written by the person who runs it, not by a lawyer. It is not a substitute for legal advice; have it reviewed by a lawyer before treating this as a binding legal document.

1. Acceptance

By using an account on derfel.dev / matrix.derfel.dev, or the chat.dimov.xyz client, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service — since it's access-gated (see below), that mainly means not signing in.

2. What this is

This is a personal Matrix homeserver run by Pavel Dimov as an individual, not as a company or commercial service. It's offered as-is, without a service-level agreement, to people connected to the dimov.xyz Google Workspace organization.

3. Eligibility and access

There is no public sign-up. Accounts are provisioned for members of the dimov.xyz Google Workspace, and login happens exclusively through Google Workspace SSO. Having access doesn't guarantee you'll keep it — see section 8.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the service to:

5. Federation

Federation is enabled. Using this service to communicate with anyone on another Matrix homeserver means your messages, profile data, and shared media are sent to and held by that homeserver as well as ours, under its own policies, indefinitely or otherwise, entirely outside our control. By using federated rooms or DMs, you accept that this is how the Matrix protocol works.

6. Bridges

This server runs bridges to a number of third-party platforms (the full, current list is in the Privacy Policy). Any conversation you have through a bridged room is, on the other side of that bridge, subject to that platform's own terms of service — using a bridge means you accept those terms too, for that platform, in addition to these.

7. Availability

This is a personally-run, single-operator service. There is no uptime guarantee or SLA. Live status is published at status.derfel.dev. The service may be paused, changed, or shut down at the operator's discretion, with reasonable notice where practical.

8. Suspension and termination

An account may be suspended or deactivated — by the admin, without prior notice in serious cases — for violating section 4, for security reasons, or simply because you're no longer part of the dimov.xyz Workspace organization the account was provisioned for. You can also request deactivation and erasure of your own account at any time; see the Privacy Policy for how.

9. Data

What data is processed, how federation and bridges affect it, and how long it's kept are all described in detail in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

10. No warranty, limitation of liability

The service is provided "as is," by an individual, without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including as to availability, fitness for a particular purpose, or security beyond what's described in the Privacy Policy. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operator isn't liable for damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of Bulgaria, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. This doesn't override any mandatory consumer-protection rights you may have under the law of the country you live in.

12. Changes to these terms

If how the service is actually run changes in a way that affects these terms, this page will be updated to match. Check the "last updated" date above.
